Types Of Hung Windows
What Are Hung Windows?
Hung windows are the most popular windows for many houses here in Canada. These units usually come with 2 types – Single and Double-Hung windows.
Single-hung windows have 1 fixed and 1 movable sash that slides up and down on a track and can safely hold a standard air conditioner. Screens can be easily added and removed, providing excellent ventilation without insect infiltration. The units are energy-efficient and allow minimal moisture and air leaks with the use of weatherstripping. Moreover, the windows tilt in for easy cleaning.
On the other hand, Double-Hung windows have both sashes movable. Such construction increases air circulation and provides more comfort. This popular style can open and close without protruding, making them an excellent choice for areas with porches, patios and walkways.

Double & Triple Hung Window
Glass panes are the largest area of any window and the most vulnerable to heat loss and gain. To provide adequate thermal performance for harsh prairie climates, a minimum of 2 panes are required. Traditional 7/8″ double glazing options are used and can accommodate 1-1/4″ for all hung windows.
In areas with prolonged low winter temperatures, triple pane windows can be especially beneficial. Ecoline triple glass packages qualify for high energy-rating standards with 1-3/8″ and 1-1/4″ options available. Can be used in combination with gas injection and/or LoE glass coatings but are not necessary.
